Vascular ultrasonography, is a highly skilled and specialized field of ultrasonography, that uses grayscale ultrasound to visualize
the structure and anatomy of an organ, together with color-doppler ultrasound to visualize the flow of blood flow within the structure,
Vascular
Ultrasound can evaluate blood vessels to accurately determine the size and flow of blood within an artery of vein in the abdominal,
neck and both upper and lower limb vessels. It can determine the presence and size of aneurysms, and the degree of stenosis or occlusion
of an artery (in atherosclerosis) or vein (with thrombosis).
Duplex is an inexpensive and non-invasive and associated with minimal discomfort. It is used to accurately map arterial and venous disease as a guide for arterial intervention and monitoring, and also for endovenous lazer therapy and ultrasound guided sclerotherapy.
